Pterocarpus marsupium, also known as Malabar kino, Indian kino tree, or vijayasar, is a medium to a large, deciduous tree that can grow up to 30 m tall. It can tolerate excessive temperatures in summer. It is also a medicinal tree. Various parts of this tree, including leaves and flowers, have been used as medicine for a long time. Leaves are used externally to treat boils, sores, and other skin diseases. It was also found to be good medicine for diabetes and skin-related diseases. The extensive anti-glycemic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the bark of vijaysar not only help in managing blood sugar levels by preventing the damage of pancreatic cells but also reduce excess fat, promote digestion, treat bleeding disorders.
