சரக்கொன்றை (Golden shower tree)

Category:

Cassia fistula, commonly known as golden shower, purging cassia, Indian laburnum, or pudding-pipe tree, is a flowering plant in the subfamily. Golden shower is a slow-growing, medium-sized, tropical, deciduous, or evergreen tree that grows about 9-20 m tall and 3-5 m wide upon maturity. It is a summer-flowering plant found in tropical and subtropical regions. This is large flowering and ornamental tree. The Golden Shower tree is a full sun tolerant tree. The golden shower has been used mainly for medicinal purposes. In particular, ripe pods and seeds are used as a laxative. The root, bark, leaves, and fruit pulp have laxative properties as well but to a lesser extent. It is widely used in almost all ayurvedic formulations that are directed towards boosting overall immunity. The leaves of the tree are used for erysipelas, malaria, rheumatism, and ulcers, the buds are used for biliousness, constipation, fever, leprosy, and skin disease, and the fruit for abdominal pain, constipation, fever, heart disease, and leprosy. Thus every part of this plant is recognized for its medicinal properties.
